Changes to due dates for employers filing W-2 & 1099-MISC
This week's Tip is for employers ... we wanted to let you know of a change to the due dates for year-end W-2 and 1099-MISC filings as the Social Security Administration & IRS have updated the deadlines to file the 2016 employer copies of the W-2 and 1099-MISC filings as follows:
- Beginning with the 2016 forms, you will now have one filing deadline, 1/31/17. This is true for both employee and employer copies, whether you're filing paper or electronic returns.
- The deadline to e-file from your payroll account in order to be considered on time with the Social Security Administration will be 1/26/17.
With this upcoming deadline, we want to make sure that you are prepared to complete year-end tasks such as verification of your employee and contractor information and wages for 2016.
